On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?

Seasonal music---what is it?

Summer
"Boys of Summer" by the Ataris
"Then you took the words right out of my mouth" by Meatloaf

Fall
"Not at my best" by Spirit of the West
"What about everything?" Carbon Leaf

Winter
"Struck a nerve" by Bad Religion

Spring
"Blue" from the Cowboy Beebop soundtrack

I'll slowly add to this list, I figure. Thoughts, folks?

I've found my tastes in almost everything are very seasonal, from music to food. Which probably explains why my most-listened to playlists tend to be the seasonal ones... they're also the ones I devote the most effort to, they're very personal and embody so much of my own moods interacting with the environment.

So, like... autumn for me is heavily the month of strings, Latin, and spooky music. So I'd do Dresden Dolls then but also random salsa music.

Winter is tricky because I certainly have winter music but most of it's piano, it's insular... at best, it's wistful, at worst, it's downright depressing. You can throw X-mas music on but I often put on my springtime music just for the sake of sanity.

Spring music is mostly upbeat indie music... stuff that's perky but with a weird streak (Ok Go, Lemon Jelly...). Folk stuff works well here too, like Joni Mitchell. So does Irish music, of course.

Summer is sort of a grab bag, though it tends to be filled with more pop-ish stuff than other months. I have a rough time with summer because much of my music and favorite artist don't really fit well, and I always am aware of this when the season rolls around. I think most folks would say summer is for "rolled down windows" kinda music, and I agree... I just don't have much of it... though reggae and Rusted Root are both pretty pleasing.

what are you doing this weekend?
We're thinking of having lunch downtown on Sat, if you'd like to join us. (We've got a coupon to an irish place ;-) )

Spring is not spring without "Jessica" by The Allman Brothers Band. And I feel that slow tempo big-band stuff is great for the winter. I listen to "Beyond The Sea" about 1000 times between November and March.
